आस्ट्रेलिया के 187 रन के लक्ष्य का पीछा करते हुए भारत ने सूर्यकुमार (36 गेंद में 69 रन, पांच छक्के, पांच चौके) और कोहली (48 गेंद में 63 रन, चार छक्के, तीन चौके) के बीच तीसरे विकेट की 104 रन की साझेदारी की मदद से एक गेंद शेष रहते चार विकेट पर 187 रन बनाकर जीत दर्ज की। हार्दिक पंड्या ने भी नाबाद 25 रन की पारी खेली.
मुकाबला काफी रोमांचक रहा टीम इंडिया को आखरी ओवर में 11 रनों की जरूरत थी. क्रीज पर खड़े विराट कोहली ने पहली ही गेंद पर 6 लगाकर टीम को जीत की उम्मीद दिलाई वहीं दूसरी गेंद पर वह आउट हो गए. लेकिन हार्दिक पाड्या एक बार फिर टीम की उम्मीदों पर खरे उतरे और चौके के साथ टीम को मैच जिता दिया.
