इससे पहले सोमवार को, अधिकारियों के अनुसार, पुलिस और भारतीय सेना के एक संयुक्त तलाशी अभियान में रविवार को जम्मू-कश्मीर के पुंछ में उपखंड मेंढर से आतंकवादियों के एक ओवर-ग्राउंड वर्कर को गिरफ्तार किया गया था. पुलिस ने उसके कब्जे से एक पिस्टल व कुछ कारतूस बरामद किया है.
पुलिस ने कहा कि गिरफ्तार आतंकवादी सहयोगी सलवा का रहने वाला था और उसकी पहचान तैयब खान के रूप में हुई थी, जिसे सुरक्षा बलों ने एक वन क्षेत्र से आने के दौरान रुकने के लिए कहा था.
25 दिसंबर को शोपियां में आतंकियों ने एक नागरिक को निशाना बनाकर फायरिंग की थी. घटना शोपियां के हीरपोरा इलाके की है. सूचना मिलने पर वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधिकारी मौके पर पहुंचे.
जम्मू और कश्मीर पुलिस के अनुसार, प्रारंभिक जांच में पता चला है कि आतंकवादियों ने दक्षिण कश्मीर में शोपियां के बुरिहालन हीरपोरा इलाके के निवासी वसीम अहमद वानी के रूप में पहचाने गए एक नागरिक पर गोलीबारी की थी.
