भारतीय शतरंज के लिए एक ऐतिहासिक पल सामने आया है। 16 वर्षीय प्रतिभाशाली खिलाड़ी Mayank Chakraborty ने असम और पूरे उत्तर-पूर्व भारत के पहले चेस ग्रैंडमास्टर बनकर इतिहास रच दिया है।
उन्होंने स्वीडन के स्टॉकहोम में आयोजित 8वें GM टूर्नामेंट में अपना अंतिम ग्रैंडमास्टर नॉर्म हासिल किया। इस उपलब्धि के साथ ही वह भारत के 94वें ग्रैंडमास्टर बन गए हैं।
टूर्नामेंट में शानदार प्रदर्शन
टूर्नामेंट के दौरान मयंक ने शानदार खेल दिखाया और 9 राउंड में 7 अंक हासिल करते हुए पहला स्थान प्राप्त किया। इस दौरान उन्होंने 6 मैच जीते, 2 ड्रॉ खेले और केवल 1 मैच हारा।
उन्होंने नॉर्वे के खिलाड़ी Aksel Bu Kvaloy को आधे अंक से पीछे छोड़ते हुए बढ़त बनाई। आठवें राउंड में मयंक ने स्वीडन के इंटरनेशनल मास्टर Philip Lindgren को हराकर ग्रैंडमास्टर नॉर्म के लिए जरूरी 6.5 अंक पूरे किए।
आखिरी राउंड में ड्रॉ कर पक्की की जीत
टूर्नामेंट के अंतिम राउंड में उन्होंने इंग्लैंड के खिलाड़ी Jonah B Willow के साथ ड्रॉ खेला। इसी के साथ उन्होंने अपने करियर की सबसे बड़ी उपलब्धि हासिल कर ली।
इस प्रतियोगिता के दौरान मयंक ने 2500 Elo रेटिंग का महत्वपूर्ण आंकड़ा भी पार कर लिया, जो कि ग्रैंडमास्टर बनने के लिए FIDE की एक अनिवार्य शर्त होती है।
गुवाहाटी से शुरू हुआ सफर
असम के Guwahati के रहने वाले मयंक चक्रवर्ती लंबे समय से भारतीय शतरंज के उभरते सितारे माने जा रहे थे।
उन्होंने साल 2024 में इंटरनेशनल मास्टर का खिताब हासिल किया था और अपने आयु वर्ग में लगातार शीर्ष खिलाड़ियों में शामिल रहे हैं।
बचपन से ही दिखी प्रतिभा
मयंक पहली बार 2021 में चर्चा में आए थे, जब उन्होंने यूरोप के कई टूर्नामेंट में हिस्सा लिया और अपनी रेटिंग को तेजी से 1800 से बढ़ाकर लगभग 2200 तक पहुंचा दिया।
उन्होंने अंडर-11 राष्ट्रीय स्वर्ण पदक, अंडर-9 राष्ट्रीय रजत पदक और Asian Youth Chess Championship में अंडर-10 वर्ग में रजत पदक भी जीता था।
परिवार का मिला पूरा समर्थन
मयंक की इस सफलता के पीछे उनके परिवार का बड़ा योगदान रहा है। उनकी मां ने हमेशा उन्हें शतरंज खेलने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया, जबकि उनके पिता ने बेटे के साथ टूर्नामेंट में जाने के लिए अपनी नौकरी तक छोड़ दी।
