नौवीं सीड पीवी सिंधु ने महिला एकल के दूसरे दौर के मुकाबले में कनाडा की झांग वेन यू (Zhang Wen Yu) को सीधे सेटों में 21-16, 21-17 से हरा दिया। प्री-क्वार्टर फाइनल में अब सिंधु का मुकाबला चीन की तीसरी सीड वांग जी यी से होगा।
दूसरी ओर, पुरुष वर्ग में युवा आयुष शेट्टी ने श्रीलंका के दुमिन्दु अबेविक्रम को मात्र 26 मिनट में ही 21-8, 21-10 से करारी शिकस्त दी। आयुष ने शानदार खेल दिखाते हुए पुरुष एकल के प्री-क्वार्टर फाइनल में अपनी जगह पक्की कर ली है, जहां उनका सामना इंडोनेशिया के 11वीं सीड अलवी फरहान से होगा। इसके अलावा, सात्विकसाईराज रंकीरेड्डी और चिराग शेट्टी की जोड़ी को वॉकओवर मिल गया, जिससे वे बिना कोर्ट पर उतरे सीधे प्री-क्वार्टर फाइनल में पहुंच गए।

भारतीय खेमे के लिए दिन का सबसे बड़ा झटका लक्ष्य सेन और उन्नति हूडा की हार रहा। 14वीं सीड लक्ष्य सेन को यूएसए के 18 वर्षीय गैरेट टैन के खिलाफ कड़े संघर्ष में 19-21, 21-19, 21-17 से हार का सामना करना पड़ा। यह मुकाबला एक घंटे और 13 मिनट तक चला, जिसमें अंततः अमेरिकी खिलाड़ी बाजी मारने में सफल रहे।
